keepSafe shelters are engineered and manufactured to be easily installed by the homeowner and with commonly available tools . The included, comprehensive, illustrated manual guides the installer through the simple process and contains assembly tips from keepSafe's own technicians.

keepSafe shelters must be mounted to a concrete slab. Garage floors, basement floors, or concrete house pads are all appropriate surfaces to which to attach keepSafe storm shelters. A concrete pad can also be poured specifically for the keepSafe storm shelter if you wish to build it as a stand alone structure. Contact keepSafe Industries for information regarding the engineering requirements for concrete slabs for stand-alone shelter installation.

Two people, by following the detailed instructions, can assemble and install a keepSafe shelter in about 6 hours. With the exception of the factory assembled door unit, which is more easily handled by two people, the unit modules are easily handled by one person. As the assembly of the keepSafe shelter requires no special equipment nor personnel (such as welding machines and welders, nor back hoes and equipment operators), installation can proceed at the convenience of the home owner.

Assembly begins by placing the base angles on the concrete slab at, or near the location where your keepSafe shelter will be mounted. If the shelter is to be mounted close to a wall or in a corner, you will have to assemble the unit just away from its final location in order to have access to all sides of the unit during assembly. The instruction manual contains tips from keepSafe's own technicians on moving the completed unit.

The eight corner panels (two per corner) are then loosely bolted to the base angles, using the included hardware. Then the roof angles are loosely bolted to the tops of the corner panels, creating the frame of your keepSafe shelter. The roof panels, side panels, and pre-hung door are then loosely bolted into the frame using the supplied hardware. The final step of assembly, tightening all the bolts, squares and plumbs your keepSafe shelter, making it ready for mounting.

Drill holes in the concrete slab, using the holes in the base base angles as a template. The supplied wedge anchors are used to secure your keepSafe shelter to the concrete slab, providing you and your family the security and safety needed during severe weather.
